Our Government

... this is the title of a recent blog post , the content is also on my last posting on the Agora-science blog on the decision of Los Angeles for Google Apps refers. The author takes on an advertisement from Google with the text

"Over 60% of U.S. state governments have gone Google"

the starting point to detail the fundamental problems connecting to the hosting of government data by a private company to reflect. I want to reflect the slightly longer article here, but rather encourage you to view the original text itself, and then once there, your opinion on the arguments advanced here in a comment to share with other readers.

Since this is a fundamental aspect of governance 2.0, I would appreciate a lively discussion at this point.

2'nd Birthday Party Invitations

chance

Last week it was snowing hard. Unusually for this area. The result: Many buses were not so many students do not reach the school. As a result, sat in a number of classes under 10 students. What makes a teacher with such a depleted class? It sends them in the cafeteria, of course, where she whiles away the time. An hour later
school, new teachers, less students, because some have realized that they are free and come again made their way home. Reaction of the teacher: He sends the students in the cafeteria.

Okay, it's just before Christmas, and really feel like no one has more class. But as it would still be with this alternative?

The teacher finds instead of 30 only 6 students. Fantastically, he thinks. At last he can even really promote individual, care for each student. He asks what specific needs they have, what they have not understood the things they particularly interest - and makes an individualized education.

I see the protests: "That's unfair, since to be a few favors." So better that no one learns anything more than a few, right? Someone who knows and I told the story, said: "This is really very different I have studied with the students in such a situation, even new content, they have this then the next at the hour of their peers gives - so. all had something out of it. "

With a little imagination and the setting is much required. Too bad that one teacher can not choose ...

Invitations Verbiage For Sorority

Help us determine if we are successful

An admittedly less spectacular invitation to this title. If I say, however, that this is a request by the American government to its citizens, this may perhaps look a little different. Then this is not only unusual but spectacular indeed! Interested? Then let me explain briefly what is at stake.

As you may remember, I had in my last blog posting little more detail the open government policy from 08 December 2009 and explained in this context be noted that these far-reaching commitments imposes on the administration in all sectors to possible to enable fast transparent governance, a far-reaching participation of citizens as well as improved cooperation between state agencies and public authorities and civil society. That the implementation of such requirements are also checked, is self-only, how to do it the best?

The most democratic governments of the world would probably have chosen to appoint an expert committee, a committee of experts or something like that with the clarification. The Obama Administration, however asks in this post from the Office of Science & Technology Policy blog their citizens. We must be interesting to see what comes of it. I will inform you at this point in the next few weeks about it.

First Aider Cureent Event

The Open Government directive of the Obama Administration: 08 December 2009

on the first day after taking office published Barack Obama a letter addressed to the tips of his administration memorandum entitled "Transparency and open governance , where he three main objectives for his ideas of Government 2.0 formulated.

  • Transparent Governance . By providing comprehensive information about the activities of the government - so the idea behind it - should be their responsibility to the citizens and citizens will be expanded as much as possible.
  • Extensive participation of citizens to be able to make their ideas and experiences feed into the work of government and thus to improve this substantially.
  • Intensive cooperation between state agencies - including the various levels of the system of time - and between public authorities and civil society in the broadest sense, associations, NGOs, industry, etc., in order to increase the effectiveness of governance.

This extremely ambitious objectives have been the course of a single decision-making process in this form, were at the citizens of Web 2.0 tools from the first brainstorming session, the discussion and evaluation of different ideas to the drafting of concrete proposals closely involved and directly (for a detailed description of this process, see my presentation "Government 2.0. The example of Obama administration, "which you can download from Scribd ) poured in a directive, which was published on 08.12.2009 in final form .

The eleven-page document consists of two parts: the actual policy (6 pages) and an appendix with explanations about the implementation of administration. The memorandum instructs the Administration, following four measures, or better implement measures designed to implement the above-mentioned three key objectives and connects this statement with rigid time constraints.

  1. make government information available online.
  2. The quality of government information to improve dramatically.
  3. A culture of open governance in the above sense to create and institutionalize.
  4. a framework - in the broadest sense - to that open governance, and supports and promotes.

What at first looks very abstract, proves to be a closer look at the memorandum to be extremely specific, because in each case at any point is given, what exactly to a certain point in time (and there is talk of 45, 60 or 120 days at point 4!) must be present. And the implementation process has now, a few days later, started on a broad front. Check out this once in this summary .

The implementation phase of the way, is characterized by intense public involvement. Such was, for example, Aneesh Chopra , Chief Technology Officer of the Government, as part of a live chat for questions. Again, I recommend reading a compressed summary only.

me for a successful and convincing proof that Web 2.0-based citizen participation is possible and can improve the content of the results of decision processes. As one can agree Vivek Kundra , the Chief Information Officer of the Government, only if he says :

"We've got to recognize that we can not treat the American people as subjects, but as a co-creator of ideas "

Since the policy appears to have finally, as far as the economy and individual companies - beautifully described in the book Wikinomics - have long ago. It is not simply getting be involved about making citizens a say a little, to give you the feeling. Policy is rather - as in the quotation by Vivek Kundra is expressed so beautifully - rely on them because they are faced with increasingly complex societies and problems of the 21st Century, their ideas, their expertise and commitment needed to control their tasks still perceive a meaningful way.

polishing pitches

pitch is a natural product. The disadvantage is that some bad places in time to age and change their characteristics (eg pitch short of the company Gugolz GG). One should use up to 1.5 years after delivery.
The pitch of the firm Tivoli (unfortunately there's not more) and has a specific standard Gugolz
higher The code provides the harder the pitch
eg Gugolz pitch in the hardness 55, 64,73,82,91
the 55mm pitch is quite soft and is often used for blending with harder pitches, rosin or shellac for a particular property or hardness, or toughness Sprödheid get.
The pitch from Zeiss has other names but this is also the higher the number the harder the pitch. Would pay 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, hardness after the former Zeiss standard defined as the temperature at which a needle with an area of 1mm ² with a load of 1kg in 10 seconds penetrates 2mm deep.

Here is a small help for the selection of pitches
It depends on the size of the body-larger per the body so soft unfortunate
material hardness (glass, crystal, plastic, metal, semiconductor) per sensitive the Materia l r so soft unfortunate
heat in the edit room per warmer the room harder so unfortunate
operation (pre-or polishing) - polishing hard the pitch does not change as quickly
polishing soft pitch can adapt well

With shellac, the pitch becomes tougher and tougher. Man, it can mix with softer pitch and polishing of lenses used. One advantage is that it's radius is not changed as quickly and thus high life has

Rosin: rosin is obtained from the Rohbalsam (resin) of the jaw. By distillation and the heat treatment Rohbalsam turpentine oil and other liquid components are removed. After the Cleaning process remaining, cooled mass is called rosin. Rosin is a brittle, almost odorless and tasteless, soluble in water mass. In pure state, it feels sticky and is transparent. Rosin has no defined melting point and is soluble in acetone, alcohol, ether, and various other solvents. It is used for mixing soft pitches.

For a more brittle surface of the pitch and thus the to increase by polishing, pitch is mixed with resin.

Google's Living Stories - News with a difference

I had announced in a previous posting to report at this point once again about the change of media through Web 2.0. Today, it is however not Citizen Journalism or like to go, but an attempt to combine Google's high-class professional journalism with the new technical possibilities of Web 2.0. The speech is launched from Living Stories, a project that Google, in cooperation with the New York Times and Washington Post a few days ago.

This is it, in short, about helping you to present high quality content in larger thematic contexts and in this way can context and background better recognize - as we all know is a central goal of political education. Watch as actual examples but even the Living Stories to "The War in Afghanistan "or " The Politics of Global Warming ". The whole thing is presented in a highly interactive, platform provided by Google that allows you to very different approaches to the subject. Read more in the embedded video below.

Two specific uses for your lessons have occurred to me spontaneously. Once Living Stories can be personalized with a lot easier to create high-quality working papers, because you have to look, not all possible documents, information and documents in many different places on the Web, but these from one location accessible to you.

Second, I would imagine high school students who have sufficient English language skills, even once compiled on the basis of one or another small presentation to make.

Finally I would like not deny that there is some criticism of this project. As a particularly interesting and worth thinking why I would like to recommend the addition post by Philipp Lenssen at Google Blogscop'd blog.

Environment 2.0?

There is the concept of the Environment 2.0, but not really for a new or newly designed environment. We only have one Earth. But maybe we can end the political education as a teaching here, raise awareness and work to ensure that the survival of our grandchildren is still insecure.

Here are some good ideas about it (at today's start of the conference in Copenhagen):

online participation opportunities in the EU now also

During our seminar, and also in the recent postings and discussions on this blog, we had in dealing with policy and governance 2.0 2.0 deals primarily with the United States as an example and now and then a quick look at the situation in other countries such as Austria, thrown. What about, but it's actually in the EU (a broad topic can be found on our UNESCO Education Server ) that whose meaning is for the life of citizens within the Union at least as important as the Government of the country in which they live?

Comprehensive and well-presented information in the broadest sense, which go far beyond what, most nation-states are offered, in fact, and the clarity the presentation of this information to redesign the website Europe recently increased significantly once again. Remarkable and praiseworthy is that you have a drop-down box at the top right of the window to select your language. For the following description I have based on the German version. But there is also the investment opportunities, politics 2.0 excel? Yes, there actually. Access can be found on the Europa website by clicking the various links in the " Participate "

image

we go through the five sub-regions and consider which each hidden behind it. It starts with online discussions.

image

In the "Debate Europe " You can, after a brief sign-in discussions on a wide variety of topics such as climate change and energy Future of Europe Intercultural dialogue and participate in other more. In addition, it is - the link "Public consultations of the EU" - possible to very specific legislative proposals, both as an organization as well as individual citizens to take positions. I think a remarkable opportunity!

The subdivision governance also provides a link to the "public consultations" and also access to the European Parliament accredited lobbyists.

In related blogs, like the following screenshot shows many links to the blogs of Commissioners and commissioner, representatives of the EU in EU countries and the President and Vice President of the Economic and Social Committee.

image

The interesting thing about these blogs are not only the posts of the blog owner, but also some lively comments. Get this but even a Impression. Prerequisite for that is the knowledge of the English language. Alternatively, you can copy the articles but also easy to insert in Google Translate and translated automatically.

The content of videos - the EU on YouTube should be self-explanatory - it is but not quite. In this section, one finds a link to the offer RSS feeds that are offered in an extraordinary variety and make it a breeze to leave very, very targeted to keep each area to date automatically.

The subdivision more opportunities of participating turns out to be largely redundant, but there are only listed once the links that are already in the other, are already treated sub-areas.

Let me conclude this brief review with two summary remarks. Once is clear that the Union offers online information and participation opportunities that deserve to qualify as extremely remarkable, and in the sum does not have to hide behind what is currently observed in the United States in efforts (to see my presentation "Government 2.0 . The example of the Obama administration, which from next Tuesday on our Web site to Agora Download is available). In sharp contrast to the U.S., where "Government 2.0" and is discussed in depth tracks the specific relevant activities of the Obama Administration will carefully and critically monitored in numerous comments, the EU's offer is likely to know almost no one in this country.

This connects to an urgent appeal to the authorities in Brussels, much more attention than previously to make. And if we're on the proposals: Why not in the many existing forums as machine translation options, as offered Google Translate and how it naturally every day in my Gmail use client, install and enable in this way at least once in approaches, a discussion of language barriers and thus to promote what the EU needs with the most urgent, a really - segmented not along the Member States - European public. to use

After many governments have begun around the world, YouTube (compare to even the recently set Note from Gabi Andreas for re candidature of Heinz Fischer in Austria ), has now, certainly for many particularly interesting, even the Iraqi Government of its own YouTube channel established. How and with what objectives described Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in a roughly five-minute video, which I have included below. The recorded speech is in the original language with English subtitles.

Mind Maps

My children are in school at some point Mind Maps have shown. I think this form of visualization of ideas, content, ideas, lectures, stories ... facilitates the retention and learning, or at least makes sure to get an intuitive overview of a topic. Why

contact my children, this valuable tool will not? I'm on the subject because I have just read a very bad book about Mind Maps, and then pretty sure I want the readers of this book probably will never use mind maps regularly. Should not we already in the school regularly to work with it? Encourage young people to structure a text using a mind map? require before a project report, first a mind map to make?

I'd be interested, who has collected other experience with Mind Maps in school?

New free book to Government 2.0

As the practical and important issues that we issue, Government 2.0, is shown, among other things, that a few days ago the EU at a conference in Malmö titled "Teaming Up for the eUnion" intensively employee. As a result, presented the Minister responsible for eGovernment EU, candidate countries and the EFTA States have a common " Ministerial Declaration on eGovernment " in which the relevant plans will be summarized to 2015.

In this context - and this brings me to the actual topic of this post - is also one of John Goetze Pedersen and Christian Bering given out, 320-page book, entitled "State of the eUnion. Government 2.0 and Onwards "appeared. It contains a foreword by Don Tapscott, one of the authors of the best-selling textbook "Wikinomics," which extensively studied the effects of Web 2.0 for the economy (here the description of the German translation on Amazon), and four major parts:

  • Section I: Government 2.0
  • Section II: Opening Government
  • Section III: Democratizing Government
  • Section IV: Co-Creation, Innovation & Values

and a final chapter the two editors.

I have for obvious reasons - the title is, as said, available only for a few days - not all, but read a number of articles of the anthology and found this extremely stimulating and consistently exciting. For these reasons, I would like you to read the book, comprising contributions from leading authors on the subject of "Government 2.0" brings together three continents, also place very fond of. This strikes me even more easily than it can be downloaded free of charge as a PDF file.

On this page you will find a brief description of content (in English) and the link to download . Happy reading!

How Web 2.0 is changing the media landscape: Twitter

During our seminar, we were able to treat because of the limited time only a tiny part of the changes that result from the Web 2.0 in the areas of economy, politics and governance. excluded completely, for example, were the media, which is all the more serious since they, as an integral part of the so-called intermediate system, as the "fourth", an outstanding importance also and especially for democratic systems. So I want in the next few weeks to take this opportunity once again to more interesting articles that deal with this issue.

The prelude to today article by Soren Gordhamer titled "How Twitter is Changing the Face of Media" make the role of microblogging lit service Twitter and makes it clear how much, not least by him, the media landscape has begun to change. Happy reading!

chemistry book: The galvanic cell

I consider myself someone with a certain interest in scientific things. This text is in the chemistry book "element chemistry" North Rhine-Westphalia had 9 / 10 I now read several times and get him to crack:
"dipped a zinc rod in a copper salt solution to give zinc atoms from electrons which are absorbed by copper ions, this." Flow "of electrons from atoms to ions corresponding to the flow of electric current, which should be demonstrated. "

Aha. Why is then immersed in the picture above the zinc bar in a potassium chloride solution? And what does "should have to prove?"
more.

" Galvanic cell. The zinc rod and the copper salt solution must be separated (aha, so there 's not the staff in the copper chloride solution. But why is it still from control electronic ???). between the two, the flow of electrons through an electrical conductor, eg a metal wire or charcoal, are made possible (it should read well, the electrons make their way through the line over to the other solution, where swim the copper ions) ... When, on the charcoal in the copper salt solution, copper ions caused by the absorption of electrons of copper atoms, negatively charged ions are left behind (which since: chlorine ions?). At the same time resulting zinc rod zinc ions, creating a surplus, of positively charged ions. It must have taken place say between the two solutions, a charge balance between positively and negatively charged ions. .? This can be achieved, for example through a permeable wall "

Alright Moreover, the principle of galvanic cell at Wikipedia also explains stupid: the picture is working with zinc and copper, explains the principle but with Copper and Silver. What it is established that scientific Thinking and teaching skills do not go hand in hand ...
